WoW Upgrades - The Item level Upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item upgrader kit level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item upgrade from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade item coupon as well as the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
